Hello, my Name is Jo Davis and I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Arizona and New Mexico. I am currently based in Farmington, NM. I work with adult clients via telehealth, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy and other techniques that assist my clients in finding their own solutions and developing coping skills to address anxiety, depression and trauma.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of the client I work with and their stated goals. Most commonly used models during my sessions are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused Therapy. These approaches help us develop goals and provide a safe environment.
My focus
My experience is with veterans, adults and prior foster children, dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and life transitions. Helping my clients find coping skills and tools to enable them to live a more peaceful and happy life is my goal.
My communication style
I have a calm and opened communication style. Creating an atmosphere that fosters open communication while being attentive to the client's needs without judgement.
My journey to mental healthcare
When I was a young adult, I was helped along the way by some wonderful therapists. In my seeking for meaning in my life I was drawn to help others through providing therapy. In my life I have been intertwined with many veterans as well as others who needed that person with whom they could turn to work through difficult times. This led me to obtaining my master's in social work and obtaining my clinical license. I feel humbled to be a witness of the growth and breakthroughs clients, which is why I decided to begin using telehealth after I retired from the VA.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients starts with asking what brings you to therapy and inquiring about what you would like to be different or better in your life. If you are new to therapy, we would begin by answering any questions you may have about the process and how we work towards the goals you would like to achieve. I also allow room for goals to change along the journey. Being flexible while also tracking your progress is part of my approach.
My first session with you
A first session with me would look like me asking some basic questions about what brings you to therapy, inquiry into your history related to reason you are seeking therapy and answering any questions you may have. Building a safe environment begins with this first session which is what I strive for.
