Welcome! I am Antoniette Richburg. I have an MSW and LCSW. As a social worker I worked in various industries such as Addictions, Domestic Violence, Developmental Disabilities. I began my clinical journey in 2007 as hospice Social Work. After 11 yrs in that industry I crossed over the provide private in home counseling and psychotherapy to senior or homebound population. I opened my own practice in 2018 and began work with a wider range of cliente from ages 25 up to Centenarians. I help those truly seeking change in their life develop the tools unique to their needs, personality and circumstances. I have learned that life coaching is as important as life counseling in efforts to create permanent positive change in one's world. All my years of experience have groomed me to be the type of therapist that delivers counseling and psychotherapy with a compassion and understanding of the person as a whole. I am able to address a wide range of issues from the everyday stresses of life, to more complex chronic issues of the mind or the body. I am well versed in the unique needs of transitioning through various stages of life, chronic illness, end of life concerns, caregiver burnout, and adjustments to the various stages of dementia and changes that come along with the aging process.
My approach
I have been trained in a number of modalities but I am not married to any one. Each person's needs are different from others. There is no one modality that works for everyone. I draw from various modalities depending on the goals, needs, and capabilities of the individual.
My focus
I am looking forward to working the age groups from 25 and on. I am hoping to help those that are seeking improve their own abilities. Therapy is a tool used to strengthen not create co-dependence. I would like to help those facing chronic stress/anxiety, depression, life transition challenges, chronic medical issues, DV survivors, challenging communication issues, challenging family dynamics.
My communication style
I am at light hearted person. I like to laugh. Life is too serious not to laugh as much as possible. I have also been told by clients that they feel seen, and listened to. Honesty is my most prominent trait that is delivered with grace during any session.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist was simple. I followed the path that made sense for my personality and natural gifts. Listening, caring for others and problem solving have always been my natural talents. I sought out the road that would allow me to make a career doing what I was naturally gifted to do and would always be capable of doing.
My goals for you
Goals are discussed on the first day and at various times during the therapeutic relationship. As the individual grows deeper insight into their own needs goals are subjected to change. Fluidity is key with goal setting and developing.
My first session with you
To do a lot of talking. The first session is a getting to know you session. This is where the client gets to purge all of the things that have been bottled up. I use the storytelling methods to gain useful information to help clients develop their initial goals.
