Hi there, I'm Brian!

Facing whatever life throws at us is tough! I am here to help, no matter what." My name is Brian Byerly, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional II with 14 years of experience offering Behavioral Health services throughout the state of North Carolina. I completed my Master of Social Work at Appalachian State University with High Honors. At the core of my practice, I firmly believe there must be a strong therapeutic alliance and connection for successful and sustainable change through therapy. This alliance, formerly known as the therapeutic relationship, Is built upon trust, safety, positive connection, and direct input to feel comfortable sharing your experience. It is a two-way street, so anything you would like to know about me, I am an open book.

My approach

I utilize an eclectic mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Trauma-Focused interventions, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, grounding exercises, guided imagery, personal experience, General Systems Theory, and Family Systems Therapy. Any challenge that arises becomes an opportunity for growth.

My focus

I work with any adolescent, adult, couple, or family, who may have even an inkling of hope to improve, change, or replace what has had them stuck. I have provided Mental Health Services to a full array of mild, moderate, and severe behavioral health conditions, including; Acute, Chronic, and Cumulative Trauma, Mood disorders, Eating Disorders, Thought disorders, Personality disorders, Substance Use Disorders, Porn addiction, Social Media addiction, video gaming addiction, gambling addictions. Exercise Addictions, Sex Addictions, as well as whatever story someone brings to me, and we work through it together with narrative therapy.

My communication style

In our sessions, you will find a warm and welcoming space. It is a judgment-free zone, and you always lead us on your path. I am known to be kind, empathetic, thoughtful, and direct. And there are always some laughs mixed in there, too, no matter how tough it may feel. I keep it real and will do whatever I can to help my clients meet and exceed the goals they would like to achieve within their therapeutic process.

My journey to mental healthcare

When I decided to become a Clinical Social Worker and Therapist, I needed something that provided true meaning and purpose to my life. Working with wires and circuits as a Data Network Engineer wasn't working for me. I was always told I was genuine, compassionate, and easy to connect with, but I never really knew how to channel that for good. So, I made a change in my life And never looked back. It gave me a purpose to dedicate my professional life to improving the quality of life of those who are suffering. Over my 14 years in the mental health field, I have seen many people and their families, including some very close to me, become devastated by substance use and untreated mental health issues. It has been apparent there has been a massive need for additional access to treatment, and the stigma of seeking treatment needed to be tackled head-on. Since I started in the field, I have seen stigma being chipped away, and people realize the value and importance of seeking help for whatever concern affects their quality of life. It is truly a sacred honor to walk beside someone, and at times their entire family, as they take steps on their pathway towards a well-lived life.

My goals for you

I believe that you are the expert on your own life and experiences. My role is to collaborate with you, providing guidance and support as you identify your own meaningful goals that are most important in the here and now. We'll work together to explore your values, strengths, and aspirations and then translate those into specific, achievable objectives. I'll encourage you to focus on your unique abilities and resources, and we'll celebrate your successes along the way.

My first session with you

During our first telehealth session, we'll focus on getting to know each other and establishing a comfortable, safe, and judgment-free space. We'll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your goals you would like to achieve, and any questions or concerns you may have. As part of this intake assessment, I'll ask questions about your background, current situation, and what are the most prominent concerns we can work through together. This session is also an opportunity for us to develop a preliminary plan for future sessions, which works best for you.
