Hello, my name is Pamela Tourangeau and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina. I have been practicing for the last thirty years, and my primary area of focus is working with people who have symptoms of anxiety, depression, and Post Trauma disorders
My approach
Over my career, I have been fortunate to have acquired many skills and experiences which I refer to as my "toolbox". I believe that no single theory or approach has the "answers" to effectively treat and help you with the problems that you hope to address in counseling. My belief is that you have the answers to your problems, and we can work together to find healthy solutions.
My focus
When someone comes to see me for counseling, my goal is to get to know you and be right where you are in the session. I typically work with adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and issues of aging.
My communication style
My style is relaxed, and I would like this to be a relaxed time for you and me to talk and also allow time for you to get to know me as well. Others who know me would say I am warm, easy to talk to, and have a good sense of humor as well.
My journey to mental healthcare
I first became interested in counseling probably in adolescence. I had a friend who lived up the street from me, and he would ask me if I had time to talk with him about some struggles in his relationship. I was about seventeen and he was fifteen.....and from that time I noticed that I loved to listen to people and help them figure out what they wanted and needed from life.
My goals for you
Within the first three sessions, we will identify your goals for counseling. We will also work on a timeline of your life to date as this can provide some good information about your experiences.
My first session with you
In our first session together we will start with brief introductions and I will gather some background information from you. I will also have you complete some forms as well. I would like this to be a relaxed time for you and me to talk and also allow time for you to get to know me as well.
