My name is Megan Cole, and I am a licensed clinical social worker in North Carolina. I believe that everyone can benefit from having a therapist to share concerns and experiences, and to help you process life's challenges- big and small. My areas of focus are anxiety, depression, grief and loss, infertility and adoption, coping with chronic illness, caregiving, and anticipatory grief. I believe in empathy, compassion, and respect, and the endless capacity for growth, development, and healing.
My approach
I employ strengths-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Attachment-Focused Therapy, Trust-Based Relational Interventions, Emotionally Focused Therapy, techniques of Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness and grounding practices, and self-esteem enhancement to assist individuals in setting and attaining their mental wellness objectives.
My focus
I typically assist clients who are dealing with the emotional pain and distress associated with loss or life transitions. My specialization is in supporting individuals who are grieving, coping with the emotional effects of caregiving or personal chronic illness, or navigating through infertility, adoption, miscarriage, infant loss, failed adoption, or other difficult life circumstances. My goal is to help you discover meaning and purpose on your path and to equip you with the tools necessary to navigate life's challenges.
My communication style
My aim is for every client to feel unconditionally accepted and secure during our sessions. While we may not agree on all matters, and I will encourage you to challenge yourself and view things from new perspectives, your feelings will always be respected and honored. I aspire to infuse empathy, compassion, and understanding into each session, ensuring you feel at ease to share your thoughts and emotions as we navigate challenging times together.
My goals for you
Establishing therapeutic goals is a deeply individualized process tailored to your unique mental health objectives. While I don't set the goals for you, I will assist you in navigating through your current challenges and suggest various approaches to transform your issues and worries into actionable goals. It's also recognized that goals may evolve during therapy, and adjustments will be made as necessary to ensure that you are receiving the support you need from our sessions.
My first session with you
The initial session involves extensive information gathering. My goal is to understand the catalyst for seeking therapy, any previous therapy experiences you have had, and what has been beneficial (or not!) in the past. We will discuss your present challenges and their effects on your life. Questions about your education, career, living situation, and key relationships will also be asked. Additionally, I will screen for anxiety, depression, and other potential diagnoses as necessary. I am open to answering any questions you may have about my background, expertise, and approach to practice to help you feel comfortable that we will work well together!
