I am Kim Simpson, a Bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina. My goal is to focus on YOU ...I would be honored to offer you a safe space and walk "by your side" as we discover solutions together.
My approach
My approach to therapy focuses on providing a welcoming, safe environment for clients to explore feelings, share sensitive topics, and develop effective coping strategies. I provide interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and EMDR among others to enhance clients’ healing and ability to reach their personal goals.
My focus
I have a passion for teens struggling with the challenges of adolescence, helping them express themselves and identify strengths and goals. I also feel a connection with women struggling with symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression often related to childhood abuse or domestic abuse issues. Having cared for my own mother, I have empathy for caregivers of aging parents and family. I use a trauma-focused, culturally sensitive lens with clients, ensuring that you will be seen and heard.
My communication style
I believe in a client-centered and strengths-based approach to therapy. I believe that every client has unique strengths and abilities that can be harnessed to overcome challenges. I also believe that therapy should be a collaborative relationship, where client and therapist work together to find solutions and achieve goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
I attended UNC-Chapel Hill and studied Spanish abroad in Seville, Spain. I am a lifelong educator, teaching Spanish, ESL, and serving as a high school assistant principal for 30 years. Upon retiring, I recognized my need to continue to help others. I returned to UNC-Charlotte and completed a Master's in Social Work, allowing me to continue to provide support as a licensed clinical social worker.
My goals for you
My goal is to focus on YOU ...I would be honored to offer you a safe space and walk "by your side" as we discover solutions together.
My first session with you
Our first session will be an opportunity to begin building trust and rapport. I will gather information from you to better understand your personal history, family background, belief systems, and pain or struggles you currently face. We will work together to determine YOUR goals and set up a treatment plan that reflects where you are and where you’d like to go.
