Hi, my name is Amy Hurwitz, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina with over 15 years of experience in mental health therapy. I specialize in working with adults through telehealth, focusing on women’s health and wellness, life transitions, stress management, and anxiety. My therapeutic approach is compassionate and collaborative, aiming to empower clients to navigate their challenges and achieve personal growth.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is tailored to the unique needs of each client. I commonly utilize Psychodynamic, Developmental, and Social Learning theories while incorporating a strengths-based and feminist perspective. I integrate principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Somatic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Attachment Therapy. This eclectic approach helps clients understand their life experiences, develop coping strategies, and find effective solutions to their challenges.
My focus
I work primarily with adults of all ages who are facing challenges related to life transitions, relationships, stress management, themes of perfectionism, health and wellness, and work/life balance. These challenges often manifest as anxiety, low self-esteem, guilt, shame, stress, grief, disordered eating, trauma, and relationship difficulties. My goal is to help clients gain insight into their internal experiences, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, identify their strengths and values, and develop healthy coping strategies for stress and personal growth.
My communication style
My communication style is supportive, warm, and approachable. I strive to create a safe and comfortable environment where clients feel free to express their thoughts and feelings. Working with me feels like a collaborative and respectful partnership focused on meaningful progress.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was drawn to a career as a therapist by the desire to connect with others and help them lead fulfilling lives. The opportunity to support individuals in mind, body, and spirit is deeply meaningful to me. I am continually motivated by the privilege of being part of my client's journeys toward wellness and growth.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting as a collaborative process, starting with getting to know the client and understanding their needs. Together, we identify coping strategies and solutions, refining goals over time to ensure they are achievable and aligned with the client's evolving needs and priorities.
My first session with you
In the first session, I aim to create a welcoming atmosphere to get to know each other and discuss what to expect in future sessions. I encourage clients to ask questions and share their reasons for seeking therapy. I will ask questions to understand their goals and concerns, laying the foundation for our therapeutic journey together.
