Hello! I am Margaret Huss, and I am an LCMHC in the state of North Carolina. I provide my clients with an integrative approach to therapy that uses a variety of techniques to best fit each client’s unique needs. From a holistic standpoint, I teach clients about the interconnection of mental and physical health and how important it is to keep both in balance.
My approach
My theoretical approaches are mainly cognitive/behavioral and holistic/integrative therapy. Clients appreciate my authenticity and ability to “be real” with them regarding how best to tackle their concerns. I encourage my clients to start with small steps and move toward what speaks to their heart and their values.
My focus
My practice focuses on working with adults as they deal with life transitions, relationships, and anxiety/depression. I work with people pre-grieving and grieving loved ones in their lives. I also provide psycho-educational information on how nutrition can impact mood management.
My communication style
My communication with clients is interactive. I believe that direct communication and participation from the client leads to better treatment outcomes. I encourage clients to discuss issues and concerns with me directly so that I can make the counseling experience a collaborative and positive one for them. I enjoy working with adults to help them find success along life's journey.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been a licensed clinician for over 20 years in many different settings such as community mental health, schools, group private practice, and my own practice. Prior to this, I was working in a corporate position followed by various roles in public education. These diverse experiences help me connect with clients in a variety of occupations that are dealing with work stressors or career transitions.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting as a collaborative process. Treatment plans can be fluid and new goals added as existing ones are accomplished. I monitor progress on goals at each session and ask clients for input regarding successes/challenges they are experiencing along the way.
My first session with you
The first session I have with a client is the clinical intake. I encourage clients to provide as much information as possible in advance so there is time to explore it in more detail in the first session. I know it takes time for a client to trust a therapist, so I remind clients to share what they are most comfortable with during the first visit.
