Hello! I am Rebecca Fugate, an Adult Mental Health Counselor licensed in NC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor), with 22 plus years of experience. I have experience in treating clients with anxiety, depression, Bipolar and Mood Disorders, life transitions, grief and loss, codependency, and relationship issues. I approach counseling from a person-centered/humanistic perspective, meaning clients are the experts in their own lives.
My approach
Some of the counseling approaches I use are Relational-Cultural (includes looking at relationships, and how past experiences affect how you relate to others in the present), psychodynamic/insight-oriented, compassion-focused, and use of cognitive behavioral techniques for symptom management (i.e. mindfulness, self-talk, self-compassion, relaxation).
My focus
Clients I have worked with are usually going through big challenges and may be experiencing both anxiety and depressive symptoms. Many are going through major life transitions such as ending a relationship, the death or illness of a loved one, a divorce, caregiving, life transitions (i.e. starting college or career, parenthood, moving, etc.), or ongoing painful family or relationship issues.
My communication style
I am warm, validating, empathic, and respectful with clients. I provide feedback and challenges, as well.
My journey to mental healthcare
I received counseling in my twenties and beyond when I went through multiple issues all at the same time involving relationships, family, and other struggles. During this process, I observed how important it is for one to feel "seen" and have a space to be able to process thoughts and feelings. I gain a lot of gratification in helping others during this process. This is what drives me to do this work.
My goals for you
We will work together collaboratively in identifying the goals you wish to accomplish in counseling.
My first session with you
We will be completing an intake assessment together during the first session together. This means that I will be asking questions about the reason you are seeking counseling, and symptoms, and get an idea of what you would like to see improve in your life. Also, it is an opportunity to get to know the therapist and identify further if it is a good fit.
