My name is Tawana Walker and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) based in North Carolina and working with clients via telehealth. I work with women and couples and specialize in Anxiety, Grief, and Stress-Related Disorders, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Behavior Therapy to assist my clients in feeling better and reaching their goals.
My approach
My approach to therapy is to meet my clients where they are in their lives. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Behavior Therapy to assist the client in reaching their full potential. These approaches allow clients to understand that they are not broken so there is no need to “fix” their lives, they are just going through something at this moment in their life.
My focus
I have found that my approach works best with women and couples who are dealing with life transitions and societal pressures. These symptoms often take the form of stress, grief, and anxiety disorders. I assist my clients in realizing that there is nothing abnormal with them and that by working together we will achieve the feeling of “normalcy”.
My communication style
My style is interactive, personable, and non-judgmental. I want my clients to feel comfortable in sharing whatever they need to share knowing that they are not being judged. There are times that I utilize humor if it is appropriate.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist was a long one since I have been working with families, women, and children for over 30 years in one capacity or another. Often people tell me that I am easy to talk to, so becoming a therapist was an easy decision. I was born a helper and great listener, so I carry these qualities over into my therapy.
My goals for you
My goal is for my clients to no longer need me. I want my clients to achieve the goals that they set for themselves by utilizing tools that we develop during our sessions, so that they may carry these tools beyond their therapy time.
My first session with you
During our first session, you should expect us to spend most of the time getting to know each other and to begin identifying how you have been feeling currently. The first session is utilized to develop rapport between myself and my client. Since every client’s current status is different, the first session might look different for each client, therefore personalizing each session.
