Hi there, I'm Elliot!

Dr. Elliot Saunders, Ph.D., LCMHC, is a licensed clinical mental health counselor specializing in trauma, clinical Christian counseling, and motivational therapy. With a holistic approach, I integrate evidence-based practices and spiritual principles to help clients achieve emotional healing and personal growth.

My approach

My approach to providing therapy is holistic and integrative, combining evidence-based practices with spiritual principles to address the unique needs of each client. The most common theoretical approaches I use in my work include Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), which focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns; Person-Centered Therapy, which emphasizes empathy and unconditional positive regard to foster self-growth; and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which aims to strengthen emotional bonds and improve relationship satisfaction. Additionally, I incorporate elements of Christian counseling to support clients seeking to integrate their faith into the healing process.

My focus

I typically work with individuals, couples, and families dealing with a range of emotional and psychological challenges. My focus areas include trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and spiritual struggles. I am particularly comfortable treating conditions related to trauma, such as PTSD, as well as those involving anxiety and depression, where integrating cognitive-behavioral techniques and emotional support can significantly aid in the healing process. Additionally, I have a strong background in clinical Christian counseling, making me well-suited to assist clients looking to incorporate their faith into their therapeutic journey.

My communication style

I strive to create a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental environment in my therapy sessions, ensuring that clients feel safe and supported while being straightforward. Working with me feels collaborative and compassionate, as I prioritize active listening and validation of clients' experiences. My goal is to foster a space where clients can openly explore their thoughts and emotions, gain insights, and develop effective coping strategies. By integrating a holistic approach that respects each individual's unique journey, I aim to facilitate personal growth and emotional healing

My journey to mental healthcare

What attracted me to a career as a therapist was my deep desire to help others navigate their emotional and psychological challenges, fostering healing and personal growth. Witnessing the transformative power of therapy in people's lives inspired me to pursue this path. My drive comes from a passion for understanding human behavior, empathy for those in distress, and a commitment to making a positive impact. Seeing clients overcome their struggles, build resilience, and achieve their goals motivates me every day to continue this meaningful work.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting with clients collaboratively, ensuring that the goals are personalized and aligned with their unique needs and aspirations. The process typically begins with a thorough assessment of the client's current situation, challenges, and strengths. We then discuss their desired outcomes and what they hope to achieve through therapy. Together, we establish clear, realistic, and measurable goals, breaking them down into manageable steps. Regularly reviewing and adjusting these goals ensures that they remain relevant and attainable, fostering a sense of progress and motivation throughout the therapeutic journey.

My first session with you

During a first session with me, clients can expect a welcoming and supportive environment where they can share their reasons for seeking therapy and any immediate concerns they may have. The session will involve an initial assessment, where I will ask about their background, current challenges, and goals for therapy. This is also an opportunity for clients to ask questions about the therapeutic process and my approach. We will begin to establish a therapeutic alliance, setting the foundation for a collaborative and effective working relationship. The aim of the first session is to gather information, build rapport, and create a plan tailored to the client's needs and aspirations.
