My name is Virginia Lyon, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker living and working in North Carolina. I try to meet my clients where they are when they come to therapy and offer a safe, caring, and no judgment area for them to work out their lives.
My approach
I tend to think my client is the expert in the room, and I am just there with a lot of experiences, real-world stories, and some book learning! I tend to use the strengths approach, mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in my work.
My focus
I really only work with adults at this point and those that are living with trauma histories, depression, anxiety, and other symptoms that life can bring.
My communication style
I try to keep an open and accepting environment in session. I so appreciate people sharing their lives and their stories with me; come as you are and speak how you like! I have been told people appreciate my ability to stay impartial and nonjudgmental.
My journey to mental healthcare
I always knew I wanted to be a helper; teaching was my first passion. But after an incident when I was in the Peace Corps, I decided adults were more my speed. Now, after almost a decade and a half, I cannot imagine doing anything else. I love talking to new people every day and helping just a bit in their lives.
My goals for you
I look at goals as a roadmap, the old-school ones (with all the squiggly lines!). There may be stops or unexpected changes, but eventually, we do our best to get to where the client wants to go.
My first session with you
Clients can expect an open, honest, and caring person at the other end of the camera. I am not perfect, but I do try to facilitate an experience of calm and understanding in the first session.
