My approach
My therapeutic approach is eclectic, primarily using Client Centered Therapy/Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Strength Perspective Approach.
My focus
I work with clients who are having challenges with depression, anxiety, anger, trauma, grief and loss, negative thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, teenage pregnancy, self-esteem, parenting concerns/issues, just to name a few.
My communication style
I meet clients where they are and stand as a change agent for the better. My goal is to empower clients to be the best version they can be while providing a supportive and safe space. Nobody can share a client's story better than the client. I am here to actively listen, engage, and provide therapy to assist in your healing process without judgement.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was a teen mom with family dysfunctions living in poverty. Honestly, I did not know what poverty was until I went off to college. Most people around me, lived like me. We had the basic necessities with lots of love. My grandparents raised me. They did a wonderful job. However, therapy is not something that was talked about in my family. As an African American, we were taught to pray, and everything would be okay. However, as I got older, I realized prayer does work but God placed professionals in this world to "help" some of those prayers to come true. My favorite scripture: Faith Without Work is Dead". One thing I needed as a young adult was someone to talk to in a safe comfortable environment without judgement. I did not have that. Upon entering college, I decided I wanted to be in a helping profession and social work definitely fitted the "want". I considered myself to be a great listener who demonstrated empathy and compassion without judgement. To this day, I feel the same way about who I am as a therapist/social worker with other noteworthy attributes. My personal experiences of becoming a teen mom and my past history/story are what drove me and continues to drive me to provide this essential life changing work.
My goals for you
At the end of the first session, I email a therapy goal worksheet to the client, in order for the client to state what they feel are the most pressing goals they would like to achieve. Next session, we discuss goals stated on worksheet and how attainable goals may or may not be. We then decide as a team how best to move forward with prioritizing the most important goal/s for treatment.
My first session with you
Introduction/getting to know each other/history/overview of what brought them to therapy.
