My first session with you
I thank them for showing up as people tend to feel anxious before their 1-2nd appointments. I like to put my clients at ease, allow some time to get acquainted. Additionally I will ask if they've seen a therapist, or counselor in the past; do they have any medications that I should be aware of; any symptoms that are troublesome for them. I will ask the individual if they are, or have bee suicidal/homicidal?
