Hi, my name is Sheri Orchard-Sloan, LPC, MO license #2021001883. I am the gentle listener, skills trainer, and recovery coach. I look forward to encouraging and supporting you through intense emotions and intrusive thoughts that are weighing you down and knotting your life with tension, anxiety, and depression. Let's get started build a life worth living and be our best self!
My approach
I enjoy teaching skills from Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and CBT/Choice Theory to show you how the brain works on trauma, brain altering drugs, and invalidating environments.
My focus
I typically work with individuals ages 17 to 99 to encourage and support their mood disorders, recovery from trauma and substance use to become aware of the mind, body, and spirit connection and how the body reacts to thoughts, emotions, and beliefs, dampening the spirit and impacts overall health. We work as a team to recognize and learn skills to decrease anxiety and depression. I love to "just talk" and have a conversation where we focus and build the self-image based on a strength-based approach.
My communication style
I like a friendly, open, transparent, with being at ease, comfortable, honest and respectful.
My journey to mental healthcare
In my previous job in social services, I had a person tell me "you need to be a counselor" and I ask why's that, the reply was "because you make people smile". I love to help people see their strengths and worth.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting as an action plan to move individuals forward from where they may be in the present moment to work to build mastery of regulating emotions, increase reasonable thinking, and use their wisdom in daily functioning.
My first session with you
Clients can expect a friendly atmosphere to get to know each other and establish good rapport as we ask each other questions gathering information.
