Hi there, I'm Tabitha!

Hello, I'm Tabitha Farr. As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, my approach to therapy is rooted in building meaningful relationships and fostering empathy. I believe in the power of a strengths-based perspective, where we work together to identify and harness your unique abilities. My focus is on empowering you with practical skills for emotional management, helping you navigate life’s challenges with confidence and resilience. Whether you’re looking to enhance your coping strategies or seeking deeper emotional understanding, I’m here to support you every step of the way. Let's work together to create positive change in your life.

My approach

In my therapeutic practice, I take a client-centered approach that is both relational and empathetic. I believe in meeting clients where they are, using a strengths-based perspective to empower them in their journey towards healing and personal growth. I prioritize creating a safe, supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions openly. Theoretical Approaches I Commonly Use: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): I frequently use CBT to help clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that may be contributing to their challenges. Trauma-Focused Therapy: I incorporate trauma-focused approaches, especially when working with individuals who have experienced significant trauma, to help them process and heal from their experiences. Substance Use Disorder Treatment: For clients dealing with substance use issues, I integrate specific techniques designed to address the complexities of addiction. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): I use DBT to assist clients in developing mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT is another key approach I utilize, helping clients to accept their thoughts and feelings while committing to behavior change that aligns with their values. Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET): MET is particularly useful in enhancing a client’s motivation to change, especially in the context of substance use or other behavioral challenges. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): I often apply CPT, particularly with clients who have PTSD, to help them modify distressing thoughts related to trauma. Brief Dynamic Psychotherapy: I also use brief dynamic approaches when appropriate, focusing on understanding the influence of past experiences on present behavior within a shorter timeframe. This integrative approach allows me to tailor therapy to each individual’s unique needs, ensuring that we work collaboratively to achieve their goals.

My focus

I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, including children, adolescents, adults, veterans, bereaved individuals, the elderly, and those struggling with Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA). I also treat individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, and those with disabilities. My experience across these varied populations allows me to tailor my therapeutic approach to meet the unique needs of each client, providing compassionate and effective care.

My communication style

In my sessions, I strive to create a warm and trusting environment where clients feel safe and supported. Building a relationship of trust is at the core of my practice, as I believe that meaningful change happens in the context of a strong therapeutic alliance. I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each client, ensuring that our work together is both collaborative and personalized. I am direct and honest in my communication, as I believe that transparency is essential for effective change work. Clients can expect a supportive, yet straightforward environment where we can work together to achieve their goals.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey to becoming a therapist has been driven by a deep desire to help others. From the beginning, I knew that I wanted to make a meaningful impact on people's lives, which led me to pursue a career in social work. The ability to support individuals through their challenges and witness their positive change is what motivates me every day. I am passionate about empowering others to navigate their life’s difficulties and find their inner strength. Being a therapist allows me to fulfill my purpose as a helper, and it is incredibly rewarding to see the growth and resilience in those I work with.

My goals for you

I believe that the most effective goals are those that come from the clients themselves. I encourage clients to take an active role in developing their own goals, as this fosters a sense of ownership and motivation. If needed, I offer guidance and support to help them articulate and refine these goals. I find that when clients feel truly heard and understood, they are more motivated to pursue the changes they seek. Together, we work collaboratively to set realistic, meaningful goals that align with their personal values and aspirations.

My first session with you

During our first session, my primary focus is on getting to know you and understanding what you are seeking in therapy. I want to hear about your experiences, concerns, and what brings you to this point. This initial conversation is crucial for us to establish a clear understanding of your needs and goals. With this information, we can collaboratively set goals and begin to develop a tailored treatment plan that aligns with your expectations and aspirations. My aim is to ensure that you feel heard and understood from the very start.
