I am Dr. Fatai A. Popoola. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I am specialized in working with individuals who are struggling with substance use disorder and other mental health issues. I work individuals from different background and cultural orientations.
My approach
My theoretical approach is person centered. The person-centered approach was developed by Carl Rogers. The idea is to treat everyone with respect and recognizing their potentials in resolving their own problems.
My focus
My practice has been focused on working with individuals who are struggling mental health diagnosis. However, my primary focus has been working with individuals who are struggling with substance use disorder.
My communication style
I am a good listener. Clients have stories to tell, and it is important to empower them to engage in their session with little interruptions. I have heard client saying it is very fun to work with me.
My journey to mental healthcare
I came from a background in which providing help for people who are vulnerable is a core value. This has prompted and influenced my decision to pursue various degree in human services and helping profession.
My goals for you
Every treatment goal must be set with the client. The SMART Goal is a tool is used quite often.
My first session with you
Client should be prepared for an introduction and ready to respond to initial assessment questions.
