My name is Holly Christianson and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) based in Austin, Minnesota and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with individuals, children and families and specialize in trauma, stress and relationships using Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Brainspotting to provide a safe, inclusive space and individualized treatment to help facilitate change.
My approach
My approach to therapy centers around the therapeutic relationship, connection and curiosity. I approach each session with unconditional positive regard and the belief that you hold the answers you are looking for within you. I use brain and body-based approaches such as Brainspotting to help you rediscover your true purpose and path. In this approach, I give grace and hold space as we work together to nurture your capacity to heal and rediscover your personal power.
My focus
I have found my style is a good fit for children, teens and adults who may be dealing with trauma, disrupted relationships, life changes, or feeling stuck in unhelpful survival states. This often looks and sounds like anxiety, depression, stress, conflict, trouble sleeping and feeling disconnected. I work to help my clients find balance, be present in the moment, re-establish feelings of safety and connection, and heal trauma.
My communication style
My communication style is client-driven, at your pace and within your window of tolerance, but always with unconditional positive regard and authenticity. I'm calm, regulated, and ready to hold what comes up in session with the reassurance there is no wrong way to do therapy.
My journey to mental healthcare
My background includes working in a residential treatment facility, in county social work, in a hospital setting before becoming a therapist in a community mental health center. I'm drawn to helping professionals as I find people endlessly fascinating in their ability to not just survive but to thrive and overcome difficult experiences, heartbreak and loss. Humans are amazingly resilient and I'm privileged and honored when you choose me to walk alongside you for part of your journey.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is client-driven based on what you want to work on and the pace at which you feel comfortable approaching these goals. As we establish our relationship and rhythm working together, we will work to set meaningful goals individualized to your strengths and goals for healing, as well as ways to track progress towards your goals.
My first session with you
My approach to first sessions is a combination of question asking designed to capture information that helps me understand how I can best be of service while also working to build a foundation for our therapeutic relationship so you can determine if my style is compatible with your goals. In first sessions I also invite you to be curious about our connection and therapy and ask any questions you might have about me, my background or how therapy works.
