Hi there, I'm Teri! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 20 years of experience. I am passionate about working with my clients, through any challenge they choose, so they can experience healing and positive growth.
My approach
My approach is client centered. I draw from several therapy modalities to best fit the client's personality. Those modalities include Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). Also, additional skills, as appropriate, to achieve positive, measurable results.
My focus
I work with adults (18+). I love working with a variety of people. My services specialties include: relationships; family, work and romantic, adjustment to life changes, anxiety, depression, PTSD, cPTSD, adult survivors of childhood trauma, substance use/abuse, and chronic illness.
My communication style
I am compassionate and straight forward. I meet you with empathy, open mindedness and unconditional positive regard. Our relationship is judgement free. I want my clients to feel comfortable telling me anything and know they are safe.
My journey to mental healthcare
At 15 I was sent to therapy because I was 'trouble'. The therapist was warm and engaging, provided education, effective communication and coping skills. Most importantly, he told my parents and me that I was not 'trouble'. The experience so changed my life that I decided to become a therapist. I strive to offer the same warm environment and to be instrumental in other people's positive change.
My goals for you
We work collaboratively, build trust and then you define what you want to accomplish. We then set attainable and measurable goals. This will help us track progress over the sessions.
My first session with you
Our first session we will get to know each other a bit. I know it can be uncomfortable to enter therapy and I will answer any questions you have. We will spend the majority of our time talking about how you have been feeling recently with me asking questions to better understand the scope and background of why you may be feeling that way.
