My name is Ruqaiyah Rogers and I'm a licensed clinical social worker, LMSW-C, based in Michigan. I provide individual counseling/therapy services statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in coaching strategies for better managing ADHD and executive functioning symptoms, anxiety, borderline personality, mother-daughter/parent-adult child attachment, and codependency using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and Brainspotting, to help my clients get clearer about who they are and start making positive and necessary changes to create the type of life they want and deserve to live.
My approach
My approach to therapy is relational and this means meeting you where you are within your reality, life perspective and experiences and from there using techniques that can get to the root of the changes you want and need to make in your life. In a session with me, I will share more information for the modality of treatment I would like to try with you. Many times I will use brain, body and trauma based therapies such as Brainspotting, EMDR as well as more talk based therapy approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
My focus
I have found that my style of therapy is a good fit for neurodivergent adults particularly those who have been struggling with ongoing life stressors due to trying juggle the pressing demands of life/work balance, dating, parenting stressors either as a single parent or you are in a relationship yet you feel like a single parent, young adults and middle aged adults who suspect or have been newly diagnosed with ADHD and on a daily basis you are struggling with focus and concentration, feeling overwhelmed, trouble making decisions, hard for you to get started with anything from household chores, homework, getting on time to appointments, etc., and overall life feels harder than it should be. All of this makes it difficult for you to set goals, plan ahead, start/complete projects, and stay organized.
My communication style
My style of communication is conversational, friendly, warm, genuine. I do my best to make a safe, open, transparent space for you to explore, share, ask questions, and talk about anything without fear or concern for being judged.
My journey to mental healthcare
In my own life journey I have worked on becoming the best version of myself and part of this has been through supportive experiences from other helpers who have crossed my path such as mentors, teachers, nurses, doctors, physical therapists, counselors and therapists. I've always liked helping and teaching people to learn what it is they need to know about themselves in order to change their circumstances and situations for the better. After being a teacher for several years and seeing the ongoing emotional and mental health struggles of kids and families in my community, I decided to become a therapist to help people gain, learn and obtain the social and emotional resources and tools they need to heal, change, grow, and thrive in order to live better, fuller, healthier, happier and peaceful lives.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a conversation about your likes, dislikes, hopes, dreams, fears, pains, joys, and accomplishments and from there figuring out what you want to have better, different or changed in your life. My approach is collaborative, supportive and honest in hopes of building a trusting environment which helps you have the clarity needed to identify and define the goals that will help you live the best life you want to live.
My first session with you
Your first session is about making you feel welcomed, comfortable, and knowing that you are in a safe space with me. From there we will spend time discussing what brings you to therapy and me asking questions to better understand how you have been feeling and what other issues or events may be connected to what you've been currently dealing with or facing. It is my hope that during our first session we can build a good initial connection and sense of each other in order for us to know if we are a good fit as a therapist and client. Each person is unique so I focus on listening to your needs and concerns really well so that for the next session we can start creating a set of goals to work on during your time in therapy.
