My name is Terri-Lynn Allen, I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) based in Maine, seeing clients statewide through telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in anxiety, stress, and trauma, using DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy to help my clients identify barriers to reaching their goals.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy, as these modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality, and allow us to work together to chart a path forward.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach is a good fit for adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and daily stressors. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, and a simply feeling overwhelmed. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and to build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life
My communication style
When communicating with you during session I will be attentive and listen without judgement. I want my clients to feel safe in discussing anything. When appropriate I will use humor, but can also be serious and provide honest feedback. At times I will assign homework to help reinforce the skills we have worked on during session.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist as I have always enjoyed helping others to be the best version of themselves. As far back as being a peer counselor, working in Crisis and volunteering with TIP I was pulled towards helping others.
My goals for you
You know you best so when setting goals we will explore where you are at and what you would like to accomplish. This begins by building the therapeutic relationship and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy.
My first session with you
During our first session we will be exploring if we are a good fit through talking and listening to help me understand where you are at and what is bringing you to therapy. As each client is individual I like to listen to understand your feelings without making assumptions.
