Hi, I am Cinder Savage, LCSW, CADC. I employ a strengths-based model and believe that each person's story is uniquely their own and deserves honor and acknowledgement as to how they want to share it. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, aging, ADHD, addiction, grief and life transitions.
My approach
Therapists call skills their "toolbox". In my toolbox I have CBT, DBT, solutions focused, motivational interviewing, and EMDR. As a drug and alcohol counselor relapse prevention, including some ACT and DBT skills. As I am always learning, will add as I go!
My focus
My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, aging, ADHD, addiction, grief, self-esteem and self-worth, and life transitions.
My communication style
I understand that living a life contains happiness and pain, joy and sadness, anger and apathy, and all emotions in between. I am non-judgmental, down to earth and humorous. I will meet you right where you are at, right now, right here. I am kind but plain spoken and may offer suggestions but understand you will use what is useful to you and leave the rest.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am number 10 out of 11 children and learned very early how people feel and think determines how they act, both good and bad. I knew I cared about people's pain, and their joy. I raised my children, had a job as an administrator, but knew I wanted to work one on one, build relationships and help people reach their goals. I sincerely believe MY strength does not lie in educating the masses but to strengthen each person I meet, who in turn strengthens their families, then communities, then towns, then counties, then states. I know, a bit lofty, but all I need to focus on is the one single very important human being that sits in front of me, willing to share their story and work on themselves.
My goals for you
I listen. The vast majority of the time people know what they want, even if it is hard to put into words sometimes. Once the overall goal is pinpointed, I will ask you, the client, how you might want to get there. If you are unsure, I will offer suggestions, and together we can choose which tool from the toolbox fits the best.
My first session with you
The first session is getting to know each other. You, the client, directs the session and tells me whatever you feel comfortable sharing. If you decide you would like to work with me, the next session will focus on the background of the issue, strengths and what change you would like to see happen.
