My name is Kelini Coker and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in both Maryland and Virginia. I help clients to navigate challenges due to life-event transitions, family of origin struggles, trauma, depression, anxiety and identity formation.
My approach
I utilize an eclectic framework comprised of Person-centered Counseling, Cognitive reframing/CBT and Mindfulness.
My focus
I work with mostly adults and couples. I typically work with people impacted by life transitions, narcissistic partner/parental abuse, as well as 1st/2nd generation immigrants in navigating cultural and societal pressures.
My communication style
I create a safe, non-judgmental space where I model active listening helping clients to feel open enough to share their authentic selves.
My journey to mental healthcare
I wanted to be a therapist because I felt there was a need in my community. I wanted to be a safe and familiar space that dispels the idea that we should keep our worries and "problems" to ourselves.
My goals for you
I explore who each client is at their core in hopes of 'meeting' them where they are, moving at their pace, helping them find meaning in their journey, and assisting them in moving closer to personal goals. Goals can be daunting so I assist in breaking them down into smaller, more manageable pieces.
My first session with you
Clients should expect relaxing and open conversation. I want each client to feel safe and 'at home'.
