My name is Kionna and I'm a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I am passionate about breaking the stigma of mental health for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and LGBTQIA+ populations.
My approach
I utilize eclectic approaches that are aligned with each client individually to include: Person-Centered, Solution-Focused, and Mindfulness.
My focus
I love the saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” It is my goal to keep you hydrated and nourished while on this journey together.
My communication style
I will foster a safe space for clients to evolve, become grounded, and be their authentic true self. I strongly believe in empowering my clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in educational settings and with incarcerated youth. During that time, I observed a significant lack of resources in many communities. I’ve come to understand that attuning to our mental health and addressing our needs is crucial for our daily functioning. When our mental health needs are unmet, it affects how we engage with ourselves and the world around us. Recognizing and addressing these needs is essential for overall well-being and effective personal development.
My goals for you
To ensure the therapeutic space is welcoming, I typically ask clients what their hopes for therapy will include. By utilizing this method, I as the clinician will be able to gather additional details/insights on client's current strengths.
My first session with you
During our initial session, I aim to gather insights to better support your therapeutic goals and needs. Our time together may involve: gathering background information, discussing coping strategies (you've used and effectiveness), clarification to gain a deeper understanding of your goals, and tailoring session to address unique needs and concerns.
