My name is Jenna Heroux. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who uses a client-centered, feminist approach to support clients on their journey to wellbeing and growth.
My approach
My approach is primarily feminist but is informed by other approaches as well, such as psychodynamic, existential, and family systems theories. Holding the client with unconditional positive regard, I seek to understand them from their own value system and sense of personal empowerment. We will work collaboratively to identify targets for treatment, while activating personal choice and self-compassion.
My focus
I am comfortable working with adults who struggle with mood disorder, anxiety, addiction, and trauma-related issues.
My communication style
I create a warm and responsive environment for the client. Aligning myself to the client, sessions may be directive, offer interpretation, or be deferential and trauma-informed. I respect that clients are the experts on themselves.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have long believed that therapy is a powerful resource that can help people live their best lives. Reverential awe for the field of psychology inspired me to switch careers in mid-life. But rather than an ordinary career that uses a single skill set, joining this field has engaged my whole being. I am able to apply myself fully in service to my clients. It has been an incredible honor to serve these wonderful fellow humans on our shared journey!
My goals for you
Isolate the major issue(s) prompting the client to seek services, reflect it back to the client to ensure accuracy, begin formulating treatment goals with the client. Set realistic expectations and ascertain how the client managed the issue to date. Check back in with the client about progress toward the goal periodically throughout treatment.
My first session with you
A conversational overview of what's going on for you and what's happening in the moment, so that we can get a feel for each other.
