My name is Susan (Sue) Morton, my license #120477 and I
My approach
My approach to therapy is tailored to my client's needs. I use a combination of CBT, DBT, ACT, and solution-focused modalities. I am a strength-based therapist who practices under the systems theory, aka a holistic approach to treatment.
My focus
I typically work with people who are struggling with anxiety or an anxiety-based disorder to help reduce those symptoms so clients can live a happier, more productive life. My other specialties include life transitions, recovering from toxic/narcissistic abuse, and eating disorders.
My communication style
I do my best to create an safe environment for my clients and am pretty laid-back and informal. I am also very active in session as I ask questions and sometimes challenge my clients to see things from a different perspective as that can be instrumental in making progress.
My journey to mental healthcare
Becoming a therapist was a mid-life career change for me. I had worked in the corporate world for 12 yrs and in my early 40s (after my divorce), I decided to finish my Bachelor's degree (Psychology) and then pursued my Master's in Social work as helping people improve their lives has always been my passion. I went to therapy in my mid-20s and it helped me improve my life in many ways.
My goals for you
Treatment goals are based on what my clients wish to accomplish which I support them in identifying within 1-3 sessions.
My first session with you
A first session is where we get to know each other a little better and I usually take a history of the client's past and present struggles with their mental health as well as what syjptoms and life stressors are impacting them now. I also find out what has and hasn't worked for them in past therapy.
