My name is Kim Hudson Fahey. I am a licensed mental health counselor with 25 years of experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. I have counseled many around women's issues, relationship difficulties, job difficulties, chronic illness, and grief and loss. I work not only with the individual but the family as well when needed.
My approach
I believe compassion is a key component to therapy as well as incorporating a holistic approach. I include traditional talk therapy (CBT) with mindfulness techniques, education, and practical coping skills that are simple and effective. I utilize an eclectic approach of CBT, Solution Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Psychoanalytic, Strength Based and Compassion Focused therapies.
My focus
My approach is focused on the client's needs and I mainly work with adults as well as late teens progressing into early adulthood. My specialty includes anxiety, depression, and stress management in all areas of life whether job related or relationship issues.
My communication style
Counseling is a process and my aim is to give the individual a safe space to process emotions and a toolbox of coping skills that range from stress and anxiety management to processing difficult emotions around trauma. My view on counseling is that it is a partnership based on support, trust and encouragement. We work together as a team to get the best results.
My journey to mental healthcare
More than 30 years ago, I started out as a high school teacher and through time realized that my view of helping people changed. I saw a need in my community for education and healing of a different kind. I, then, went to graduate school for counseling while teaching full time. Upon graduation, I worked with many different populations and it was a wonderful experience to be a part of the healing process with others. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with people in their journey to heal. Today, I am thankful for that move toward counseling people.
My goals for you
I believe that therapy is a collaboration between therapist and client. Together, we can negotiate through the difficult emotions around the many issues we face today such as high anxiety, depression, loss of a family member, or chronic illness and, with that, set therapeutic goals around the client's needs. My hope is to help with that goal setting and for that person to move forward with peace of mind and confidence.
My first session with you
Clients can expect that the first session will be for information gathering in regard to what a client is looking for from therapy and some history as to what brought them to the therapy session. The first session usually last approximately 1 hour in order to collect information and to determine if I am a good fit for the client.
