Hi there, I'm Mary!

Bijou McCurdy, MSW, LCSW-BACS It is time for you to take on Joy, Freedom, Playfulness, and Prosperity. You are the Whole Reason You are here! To Thy Known Self Be True. Let's look deeper into that thing you keep worrying about; That old story you wanna understand and heal; That conversation you're avoiding. Come, Speak. I will listen. And I will give back to you stellar insight, support, and validation. You are Real.

My approach

The frameworks that shape my therapeutic approach are simultaneously basic and esoteric in essence. I draw from the 6 Basic Human Needs, the Stages of Grief, Erikson's Stages of Development, Jungian Psychology and Archetypal work, the 12 Steps, Tantra Philosophy, Masculine and Feminine Principles, and many schools of spiritual thought and practice.

My focus

I work well with clients who are eager and open to receive deep insights and sharp feedback; clients who are ready to take action towards radical self responsibility for personal growth; clients who are struggling with existential matters and are open to being guided through sensitive trauma work and substantial belief work and purpose work. I help clients find meaning in life. This is the way of healing.

My communication style

Most of all, I create an atmosphere of Permission. Permission to be exactly as you are-- in thought, word, and deed. We are all doing our best. The decision to come to therapy is a courageous move to cease the suffering, though my purpose is to help you learn to trust yourself. I do that by Seeing you. Judgment has no place in that unfurling. Permission to be All of You is essential. I understand why humans do what we do.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey of becoming a therapist began as a client in my teens. My persistent and passionate pursuit to learn the craft of counseling came on strong after seeking the wise counsel of therapists in my 20s. I grew exponentially through those hardships, and my love for the therapeutic process and the human experience deepened in these adulting years. I have remained devoted to the tandem paths of being a client and a therapist all along. This helix of experiences has instilled in me a great respect for the human experience and our natural longing for meaning and purpose. I take great care in walking you through the Unknown with ease and understanding. I enjoy serving you with the highest integrity, deepest compassion, and most magical creativity I can embody. It is My purpose.

My goals for you

In the beginning, this is an essential question. Together we track their goals and desires throughout the therapeutic process. I remain curious and inquisitive about what the client wants in any given moment. It becomes the theme of our work together, and the guidance I give is directly tethered to that purpose. I offer homework, which I call "Integration Practices" to support the client into action between sessions. Gaining results and seeing change in oneself is the fruit of actual healing.

My first session with you

When I first meet a client, it is the most important thing to explore and listen to the reasons they have chosen to seek support. Each client is in a vulnerable situation in the initial meeting. We are new to each other. Creating a nonjudgmental space to build trust is priority. I honor that by acknowledging the humanness in your stories and listening carefully for any circumstances where I can offer immediate hope and relief. I call this "the Exhale Experience." All sessions build upon this flow, together.
