Hello, I am Laura Whites. I am a licensed clinical social worker helping individuals with grief, loss, panic and anxiety. I expand on the word loss to include anything or anyone that is important to you and any major life change. This could be a relationship, a job, a city, an identity, religion, your family of origin...the list goes on. Some people find it helpful having a designated space to talk about these challenges in their life. I am here to offer that space for you.
My approach
I use Acceptance and Commitment therapy and Narrative Therapy and my main treatment modalities. I believe in the power of story telling and the words we use can make a big impact. I work with you to find a calm state inside, even in the face of life inevitable struggles.
My focus
I work with clients experiencing prolonged or anticipatory grief and loss and anxiety and panic. Loss does not only mean death, it can be the loss of a relationship, a city, an identity, the list goes on.
My communication style
I offer a safe and supportive space for you to tell your story.
My journey to mental healthcare
I had some really great therapist growing up as a child and on into my adult life as well. I always knew I wanted to be in the helping profession. It is important to me to have meaningful work. Putting healing energy out there in the world is important to me.
My goals for you
I work with my clients to identify specific values and qualities of being they want to bring into their lives and together we find clear behaviorsd in those directions.
My first session with you
The first session I ask the client to discuss the most pressing challenges at that moment. We will discuss what has been done so far to alleviate these challenges. We discuss what keeps you stuck and plant seeds for new ways of thinking and being. These new ways are in line with the clients goals and desires to a more meaningful life.
