I’m Wanda Harris, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in both Louisiana and Mississippi with 28 years of experience as a therapist. I’m also an Ordained Minister and College Professor. My focus areas of practice are trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. I also provide, marital, premarital, and post-divorce counseling.
My approach
The most common theoretical approaches I use include brief solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion process therapy and faith-based therapy.
My focus
I typically work with adults and some teens, at least 16 yrs of age. At this time, I don’t have an age limit. I work with both men and women, and I have experience working with dually diagnosed clients with both mood and/or anxiety disorders and substance use issues.
My communication style
I work to develop rapport with a conversational style of relating as I get to know clients and gather information.
My journey to mental healthcare
My senior research paper in high school was about mental illness because I found it interesting due to some of the things I had seen in the community and in my family. I went to college majoring in Accounting because I enjoyed it as well, but then changed my major to Counseling in my last year after a conversation with a friend who was completing a practicum working with abused kids. After graduation I worked in case management for almost two years before returning to school to complete my Master’s degree in Counseling.
My goals for you
Treatment goals are developed around targeting reduction of symptoms and development of coping, problem solving, communication and decision making skills to improve outcomes and relationships for clients.
My first session with you
Clients should expect and integration of conversation with open-ended intake questions to develop an understanding of what brings him or her to therapy.
