My name is Edna Booker. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addictions Counselor. I also have experience in trauma therapy and crisis intervention. I have experience with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, grief, substance use disorders and recovery. My approach is strength-based. Let's use what helped you to survive to support you now; it's your strength. I can help you find and name it. It will take you to the next level!!
My approach
My focus is client-centered services. The services need to feel safe, comfortable and productive or they won't be impactful. I also build on positive psychology. I use a variety of approaches based on the needs of the client. Such approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, gestalt, etc.
My focus
I have 30 years' experience working with addiction/dependency/use disorders-my area of specialty is co-existing disorders (more than one). I also have extensive work with ADHD, bipolar, depression and anxiety disorders. I have experience with workplace crisis and debriefing, crisis work, family therapy, couples counseling, trauma work, grief and anger management.
My communication style
My communication style is friendly, engaging and safe. I create an environment of trust and support. Your truth is your truth. I don't try to force my truth onto you. You can relax and be yourself without being judged for it. It's okay to be you! I listen and support. My voice tone is soft but firm. You need to know that you are important and valuable! My tone makes that clear...
My journey to mental healthcare
I was born to be a therapist. I never wanted to do anything else in my life besides counseling. I went to school and worked during school in this same field. This is my destiny.
My goals for you
I support you in goal setting when you are ready. I help clarify the goals based on what you communicate. This is about what you want and are reasonably able to accomplish...
My first session with you
During our first session you can expect to chat. We need to get to know each other before we dive into the deep together. I will share some basic rules, you set the tone, I support it, we stay honest and work together. Let's check the chemistry to see if we are a good match, if not, I will support you in finding a new counselor that is a better match. This process is all about you and your progress, not me.
