My name is Dr. Suzette Crayton Gutter and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from Louisiana providing telehealth services to clients. I work with adolescents and adults who experience behavioral health issues, such as depression, anxiety, stress, anger, grief/loss, self-esteem issues, difficulty adjusting to life transitions, and relationship problems. I focus on clients' strengths as a foundation to help improve overall wellbeing.
My approach
My approach to therapy is client centered. However, I most often use cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and psychoeducation. I assist clients in addressing unhelpful thought patterns, work through past trauma, and learn effective ways to cope with difficult situations. Teaching practical strategies that clients can use every day is my goal of therapy.
My focus
I enjoy helping teens and adult clients learn how to manage their emotions more effectively. This would include, but not limited to, sadness, anger, grief/loss, and anxiety.
My communication style
My communication style is relaxed. I promote an environment where clients feel comfortable sharing.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey as a therapist started when I was a teen learning how to handle ups and downs in life. I wanted to help others learn how to do the same. Believing that my purpose is to help others heal emotionally is what drives me to this work.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with clients by helping clients identify what they want to accomplish during therapy sessions. I assist clients in identifying realistic and achievable goals. The goals are reviewed on a regular basis to determine if are still appropriate.
My first session with you
During the first session, clients will share the reason for starting therapy. I encourage clients to ask questions and share concerns. I also ask questions to help me understand what is needed to help clients feel better. This will be the start of building the client and therapist relationship.
