My name is James Rowe and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Shreveport, Louisiana who works with clients statewide via Telehealth. I work with adult clients to heal their unresolved interpersonal issues by guiding them to new insights or perspectives, and gaining new tools or skills for positive change and growth. Throughout my 20-plus years as a counselor, I have developed a unique style and approach to the therapeutic process that works very effectively in helping clients heal and grow in the areas of relationships with self and others, and developing a more healthy world view of their life.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on my client's presenting problems/issues. I utilize techniques from multiple theoretical approaches to therapy, such as Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Neuro-Linguistic-Programming, Bio-Feedback, Reality Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Rational-Emotive-Behavioral Therapy. I have found that multiple approaches to therapy are vital to the therapeutic process of resolving my client's issues.
My focus
I provide individual and couples therapy and specialize in PTSD, Relational/Childhood Trauma, Anxiety, panic attacks, Stress, Life Transition Issues, Relationship Issues, and other Mood Disorders. I'd have to say, that my specialty area of practice is working with clients struggling with trauma, anxiety, stress, and relational issues. Although, I provide very effective treatment for a host of other interpersonal issues and mood disorders.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, inviting, open, compassionate, and non-judgmental. However, at times I believe it is important to challenge my client's thoughts/beliefs, it is done with the utmost empathy. I want my clients to feel completely comfortable being open and honest about their inner struggles and feel as though they can share anything with me that will help with the therapeutic process.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist started in my late teenage years. Throughout my teens and early twenties, I went through many challenging personal issues myself and had a lot of friends and others confide in me to help them with their life challenges. I was always intrigued about what it means to be human and wanted to gain more understanding of the mind, emotions, and behaviors. Through my own personal growth and healing, I knew that becoming a therapist was my true calling.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is about creating a therapeutic alliance by working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we will work together to set goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Each individual is different, and I like to listen first before assuming I know what will work best for you moving forward.
