Welcome! My name is Natalie Henry and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in the beautiful city of New Orleans. My goal is to help patients reach their highest potential through a trusting, supportive relationship. Areas I have most experience in include anxiety, depression, grief, but I welcome the opportunity to get to know you and your individual needs.
My approach
To me, the most important foundation is the therapist/client relationship. My work tends to be holistic but I frequently employ humanistic, cognitive, and psychodynamic theories. Therapy is, of course, an opportunity for the client and therapist to work together, so I encourage clients to explore what modalities they think might work for them as well.
My focus
My experience ranges from teens to college students to young adults to older adults. I most frequently work with clients who are experiencing some sort of distress whether it is stress, life changes, deep seated issues, or grief (or all of the above!).
My communication style
My goal is to provide an environment that feels safe, even through difficult conversations. I typically present with a calm demeanor, and my sessions are meant to feel judgment free. Ideally, therapy is a partnership for client and therapist to find meaning, solutions, and most of all, peace.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been interested in human behavior and psychology since I was around 12 years old. I was interested in why people do what they do and wanted to know more about it. I decided to study psychology in college at Loyola University New Orleans, which is where I discovered an equal interest in sociology (the macro version of psychology). I have also felt a keen sense of social justice since high school and I knew I wanted to go into a profession to help people. I ultimately decided to pursue a Master's degree in Social Work, because it afforded an opportunity to help on a micro level (person to person) and a macro level (helping communities and large groups). Ultimately, my goal is to help clients reach their highest potential through self awareness, unconditional support, and psychoeducation.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a client led part of therapy. I will typically ask clients what their goals are (they do not have to be formal), and then I will help shape them as we journey through therapy. I will usually touch on goals at each session to ensure that we are making progress and updating goals if needed.
My first session with you
The first session with me is an opportunity to get to know each other. I will ask lots of background questions to get a feel for what your environment, values, beliefs, and general life look like. We may not get to the "nitty gritty" during the first session, but it will be an opportunity to establish rapport and goals.
