I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Kentucky with seven years of combined therapy and case management experience helping individuals navigate life's challenges. I specialize in working with individuals suffering from anxiety, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, self-esteem issues, and codependency. I look at the bigger picture of your life and use a collaborative approach to figure out what areas we can work on helping you change to improve the quality of your life.
My approach
I am most rooted in DBT, which focuses on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills. I feel that this approach is best at helping people understand how their relationships work as well as why their mood has become unhelpful to them as well as how to approach making a positive change. I also utilize CBT for dealing with anxiety, paranoia, and stress, as we can often convince ourselves of things that aren't true about ourselves or the world at large that create emotional and relational problems. I also use ACT to help people accept the things that they cannot change and MI to help people understand disconnects between their deepest desires and their behaviors.
My focus
In addition to the most common problems people suffer from, like depression and anxiety, I have a lot of experience working with folks suffering from bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and substance use disorder. Avoidance issues, grief, and panic disorders are something I also treat.
My communication style
My sessions are very informal and my focus usually is on building rapport with you so that we can have a good relationship to unpack whatever you're dealing with. Once we have built a relationship, I prefer to take a collaborative approach, helping you decide what areas in your life you want to change. I hold clients accountable for change, but in a playful way.
My journey to mental healthcare
I'm driven by curiosity and a desire to hear other people's stories and the rewarding feeling that comes with helping others feel heard.
My goals for you
Generally, I like to get your feedback and find out what you want to work on after a clinical interview. I will usually offer feedback as to problems I observe when we arrive at deciding how to approach your treatment. After we brainstorm, we decide what areas you want to start on and I start providing you with homework to help you treat whatever is ailing you.
My first session with you
A first session is probably going to be getting to know each other, gauging the severity of whatever you're bringing to me, and figuring out if I'm the right fit for you. We'll also grab some basic demographic information so that I have a background to understand where you're coming from and the problems you're presenting with.
