It's nice to meet you. My name is Stacey Zimmerman and I'm a licensed clinical social worker in KY, UT, and ME (soon to be AZ, CT, FL). My practice style is simple yet effective. I take pride in my values and morals to remain grounded in the golden rule: To treat others how you would like to be treated. I listen to listen; not listen to speak. Time and attention are always given. Humility is my centerpiece.
My approach
Human behavior when placed in context has ripples yet has quiet the flow, beauty, and reason to it. Sometimes behaviors manifest merely for the chronic quest of hanging on to survive, staying attached to that one person, or perhaps adopting humor to make others smile. The science of human attachment has interested me since I could remember. Attaching to folks around us, to ourselves, and to the world, is a profound and intimate journey that shapes multiple entities of our internal world, specifically view of thy self. I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy as I believe not two people are the same; however, the basis of my practice is authentic human attachment. Some theoretical approaches include but not limited to: EMDR, CBT, DBT, CPT, Emotion-focused, Gestalt, Psychoanalytic, Family Systems, etc.
My focus
I've had the pleasure of working with various populations. Nowadays, I am seeing more of adults than kiddos for now (this will change soon). In terms of what I can assist with, I am more than happy to work with the following: Grief, stress, anxiety, depression, adjustment, OCD, ADD/ADHD, behavioral concerns, family dynamics (to list a few).
My communication style
My style of therapy is down to earth, simple yet effective. I am a compassionate person. I listen to listen. I wholeheartedly try to understand the entire situation, environment, and person before I speak. I'm a thinker and tend to think about all factors before I speak which is my proactive nature. Communication wise, I speak in layman's terms as I believe it's important to be as transparent as possible.
My journey to mental healthcare
My undergraduate academia was largely based in the realm of neuro with the study of how humans actually come to feel emotions. I'm a believer in understanding the total concept of processes, thus fueled my passion to study neuro and attachment science. After receiving my master's degree, I served folks 5-years old to end-of-life in settings of community mental health, juvenile detention centers, therapeutic foster care, private practice, geriatric wellness-assisted living facilities, and integrated behavioral health primary care. Before becoming a mental health therapist, I served 14-years in the U.S. Army in various entities to include active duty, Reserves, and the National Guard to which I then went to serve as a contractor with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. I am a lifelong learner and wholeheartedly enjoy remaining receptive to others' teachings.
My goals for you
Goal setting must be a bidirectional process which means communication is had between the client and myself. I like to say I am merely the bus driver in session which only maximizes the client's autonomy.
My first session with you
Come the first session, a client can expect meeting for at least 45 minutes to complete a comprehensive assessment which includes personal information such as name, address, presenting concerns or what brings you to therapy, health information, mental health history, social history, and family health history.
