Hello, My name is Kendall Ymalay, and I am an LCSW. I have been a mental health practitioner for over 15 years. I am committed to using interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing to help others identify and reach their goals. I have worked extensively with those in the adoption triad, parents of kiddos with special needs, and teens who are in foster care. I have worked with people who have suffered severe trauma (both physical and emotional). I’ve worked with families who are experiencing a lot of conflict, and have worked in both urban and rural areas. I know seeking counseling is a huge step, and I hope you allow me to join you on your journey.
My approach
I use several interventions to help others reach their goals, including CBT techniques, Motivational Interviewing interventions, and a strength/system based perspective.
My focus
I’ve worked with several populations, including those in the adoption triad, parents of kiddos with special needs, and teens who are in foster care. I have worked with people who have suffered severe trauma (both physical and emotional). I’ve worked with families who are experiencing a lot of conflict, and have worked in both urban and rural areas.
My communication style
I hope to create a safe, calming, and nurturing space that allows others to explore and grow.
My journey to mental healthcare
I knew I wanted to help people as early as I can remember. I studied social work in college and graduate school, and discovered that I love working with kids and families facing crisis. After graduate school, I became passionate about working with families with children with disabilities as well as those involved in the adoption triad. After moving to a rural area, I was able to work with teens in the foster care system.
My goals for you
Initially, if it feels comfortable to the client, we start with broad goals. Together, we can identify steps that can be taken to achieve thesis goals as well as examine things that are preventing someone from making these goals a reality.
My first session with you
The first session is for us to get to know each other. We will talk about what brought you to therapy, and decide how to move forward together.
