Welcome to Rula, I am Beth Aguayo LCSW, and I have been practicing social work for 20 years! I have felt compelled to be a compassionate listener and supporter of others throughout my life. I enjoy working with adults who are coping with change, anxiety, stage of life issues, ADD symptom management, parenting challenges, women coping with infertility. Connection, compassion, authenticity, and empathy are the cornerstones of my therapeutic approach, I believe that paying attention to a clients automatic thoughts, beliefs about themselves, and behaviors, can lead to great change a growth! My license number is 34006074A, this is an Indiana Clinical Social Worker license.
My approach
I have had some additional training in motivational interviewing, CBT, strength based approach, mindfulness, and ACT. I take a client center to approach which means I constantly seek out feedback and clarity around what feels comfortable and resonates therapeutically with each individual client.
My focus
Women coping with infertility, expectant mothers, postpartum, anxious adults, adults with ADD, issues related to parenting, those who are coping with codependency, these are some of the conditions that I am most comfortable treating.
My communication style
Many of my previous clients have shared feedback with me that I feel genuine, attentive, sincere, calm, and supportive. I meet the client where they are at for each and every session, I work to make sure that you don't feel pushed in a way that is uncomfortable while delicately helping you to move toward your goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
Connection, compassion, authenticity, and empathy are the cornerstones of both my personality and my therapeutic approach. I pursued my passion to help people and encourage connection by obtaining my Masters in Social Work from Loyola University of Chicago. To sit with and experience loss, anxiety, depression, trauma, fear, uncertainty, alone, intensifies those feelings and fosters a sense of isolation and disconnect. I have witnessed the healing power of therapeutic interventions in many settings and I truly believe that this works makes a difference for so many in so many ways. The understanding of the continued impact with one individual for generations drives my energy and dedication to providing quality care!
My goals for you
During our first session I explore why you are in therapy now, what you are hoping will change and be different in a few months due to you having taken the step to begin therapy.
My first session with you
During the first session we will begin with exploring your "why now", often clients have thought about therapy previously but something has happened that motivates the client to begin treatment now. We will discuss some of your history, who you currently live with, relationship past, and sources of support currently in your life. I will ask about any previous diagnosis or treatment related to mental health. Lastly we will outline a few goals you have for treatment and I can begin to share how I think therapy could support those goals at this time.
