Hello, I am Anna Ellis a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (39004969A) in the state of Indiana and a National Certified Counselor. I am also a Certified Personality Disorder Treatment Provider and Gottman level 3 trained. My approach with clients tends to be pretty down to Earth and more conversational rather than worksheets and homework.
My approach
I have a foundation of Narrative therapy, meaning that I believe we all have a story and at times need to tell that story to be able to discuss and work through some of the past and present experiences to be able to make peace with self or others. I give honest and forthcoming feedback and like to help clients look within themselves and use their own experiences and strength as a guide to gain insight.
My focus
I work with individuals who have a diagnosis or symptoms of personality disorders, dual diagnosis, stress, anxiety, and some areas of religious trauma. I am also Gottman level 3 trained to work with couples in areas of infidelity, communication and polyamory. I am an ally to those within the LGBTQIA+ community and have 4 years experience working with this population.
My communication style
I like to cater the environment to the needs of each individual client, yet I tend to be a bit laid back and utilize talk and peer support techniques when working with clients. I believe we all know what is needed to heal in the end, we just at times need to have someone who is unbiased to walk with us on our journey.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always wanted to be a therapist and to be present to help others to feel acceptance and to know they are cared for. I believe it is important for us all to have someone who is nonjudgmental that we can share our thoughts and concerns with and still feel supported, accepted, and encouraged by them.
My goals for you
All client goal setting should be client based and we will work as a team on identifying the goals needed to assist with overcoming whatever obstacles may be in the way. Goals are set on a SMART goals foundation meaning they should be timely, yet achievable to the individual.
My first session with you
Our first session will be introductions, we will discuss confidentiality and informed consent, and the clients rights within the counseling relationship. At this time we will also gather demographic information to get an idea of the areas that need to be addressed starting out as well as potential areas that may need focus in the future.
