Hello, I am Adriaka Jackson, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Indiana. I assist individuals with effectively managing anxiety, stress, anger, depression, and drug/alcohol abuse. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths to overcome the things in life that challenge you. Together, we can identify what's not working and get you back to a healthy life balance.
My approach
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a goal-oriented talk therapy approach that allows individuals to effectively manage problems by identifying and recognizing how to implement a positive change in thought and behavior. I also use Motivational Interviewing by asking open-ended questions, using reflective listening skills, and affirmations to help individuals explore thoughts and feelings that will help them to identify their motivation for positive change.
My focus
I assist individuals with effectively managing anxiety, stress, anger, depression, and addiction. I enjoy working with individuals who are seeking change for the better. My clients are eager to improve, but oftentimes don't yet have the tools and/or motivation needed to move in a positive direction of change in thought and behavior. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed and anxious about their current life situation and need guidance in processing thoughts and feelings to become the best version of themselves.
My communication style
I create a therapeutic bond by being friendly, warm, honest, and welcoming to make each therapy session comfortable and safe environment for my clients. I remain sensitive as to why each client sought help and I build rapport by being patient to allow the client time to become comfortable with sharing thoughts and feelings.
My journey to mental healthcare
I grew up with aspirations of becoming a pediatrician. However, life took an unexpected turn, as I navigated having a family member with mental health challenges, which led me to another helping profession, mental health counseling. I find immense satisfaction in helping clients discover their strengths and achieve their personal growth. I believe that when you’re passionate about what you do, work becomes a fulfilling and rewarding journey.
My goals for you
In collaboration with the client, I assist the client with creating a roadmap for progress. I help the client to establish goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Together, we will do the work to help the client achieve a healthy life balance.
My first session with you
In our first session together, the client and I start with brief introductions, then we dive into the specific challenges the client is facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for the client and I to work through in follow-up sessions.
