Hi, my name is Patrick Hoekstra and I am a LCSW in the state of Indiana. I have been practicing since 2016 in Michigan and Indiana. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches as I feel it helps the client achieve their goals quickly by changing how we are thinking to external stimulus.
My approach
My approach to therapy is a partnership approach where the client and I guide the treatment and each session. I push my clients with love to reach their full potential and to reach their personal goals. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Written Exposure Therapy, Unified Protocol, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety/Depression.
My focus
I have a lot of experience working with clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, family and relationship issues, and clients who need general support.
My communication style
I like to create an environment where the client is comfortable opening up in a judgement free safe space. This allows the freedom to truly work on the underlining causes of what brought them to therapy. I am easy to talk with and like to use metaphors during sessions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am a veteran of the US Army and Marine Corps and through my deployments I noticed that there was a need for more mental health help for the veterans coming home. This truly started me down the path of wanting to make a difference with the people that I encounter and helping them through their problems and walking along side of them on their journey.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is to identify the symptoms and underlining issues that brought the client to therapy and using a shared decision making model we come up with goals that make sense to the client but are realistic.
My first session with you
Our first session is an intake session where I find out what you are experiencing in your day to day life that brought you into therapy. I will ask broad questions to help facilitate a discussion on ways we can work together to get you to your goals.
