I am a licensed clinical social worker, currently based out of Illinois. I received my MSW from the University of Northern Iowa in 2018, where I specialized in trauma processing and trauma-informed care. I am also an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) trained therapist. Since I started working in the field, I have gained experience providing services to those who have not only identified troubles due to mental health but also struggled with addiction.
My approach
I like to use an eclectic approach when it comes to treatment modalities because I believe that there is no "one-size-fits-all" when it comes to therapy. Modalities I am comfortable using include Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, and working from a person- and client-centered approach. I truly believe that one is the expert of their own experience.
My focus
While my previous work experience has an emphasis on trauma and addiction, I am also comfortable working with issues such as depression, anxiety, and anger management. I have experience working with individuals of all ages, and I find the modalities I use to give the individual control over the session while providing them with a comfortable place to grow and heal.
My communication style
I'd like to think I have a calm tone and demeanor during sessions. I like to use therapeutic silence with active listening techniques; this gives the individual the opportunity to take as much time as they need to express themselves without feeling rushed or pressured.
My journey to mental healthcare
I love being able to help people! It's beautiful watching someone make progress in their healing. I have received training in Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, and working from a trauma-informed approach. What's wonderful about it is that an individual is able to process past events without even saying them out loud if they are not comfortable doing that.
My goals for you
I like to develop goals with the client. If they are making progress in their goals, I consider that a success. What's important to me is that they can utilize strategies in order to regulate their emotions effectively outside of the therapeutic environment so that their previously identified symptoms don't have an impact on their present life.
My first session with you
During the first session, I will give you the opportunity to express what is bringing you into services. I will also gather information from you for a social history to understand what your support network and protective factors look like.
