Hi, I'm Dr. Teris Gosier, LCSW. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I take a client-centered, solutions-focused approach to therapy, helping you navigate general mental health challenges and substance abuse issues. My goal is to provide practical support and real conversations that lead to meaningful change in your life.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is grounded in being client-centered and solutions-focused. I believe that each person’s journey is unique, so I tailor therapy to fit your specific needs, goals, and circumstances. My role is to create a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. I primarily draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) in my work. CBT helps us identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, while MI encourages self-motivation and commitment to change. I also integrate elements of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), which emphasizes finding practical solutions to current challenges rather than focusing solely on past issues.
My focus
I typically work with adults who are navigating the complexities of general mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, and stress, as well as those struggling with substance abuse. I’m especially comfortable helping clients who are ready to make positive changes but need guidance on where to start. My focus is on providing practical, down-to-earth support to help you manage these issues and achieve your personal goals.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, straightforward, and down-to-earth. I aim to create a relaxed, non-judgmental environment where you feel comfortable being yourself. Working with me feels like having a real conversation with someone who genuinely listens and cares about your well-being. I'm here to support you, challenge you when needed, and help you find practical solutions to the challenges you're facing.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist started with a deep desire to help others navigate life's challenges. I was drawn to the field by the impact that genuine connection and support can have on someone's life. Over time, I realized that therapy is not just about helping people cope; it's about empowering them to find their own strengths and solutions. What drives me in this work is the privilege of witnessing those moments of growth and transformation. Being a therapist allows me to make a meaningful difference, one conversation at a time.
My goals for you
When it comes to goal setting, I believe in a collaborative approach. We’ll start by exploring what you want to achieve, both in therapy and in your life. Together, we’ll break down those goals into manageable, realistic steps that align with your values and circumstances. I’ll help you stay focused and motivated, adjusting our plan as needed to ensure that the goals we set are both achievable and meaningful to you. It’s about making progress that feels right for you, at your own pace.
My first session with you
In our first session, you can expect a relaxed, open conversation where we get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you hope to achieve, and any concerns you might have. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your background and current situation, but most importantly, I’m here to listen. Together, we’ll start to outline some goals and discuss how we can work together to reach them. The focus is on making you feel comfortable and setting the foundation for a strong, supportive therapeutic relationship.
