Hi, my name is Thelma Rodriguez and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 15 years of experience working in schools, nonprofit grant programs, 5 years of adjunct professor experience, and 3 years of Private Practice. I have been a school social worker for 16 years working with adolescents, children, and parenting programs.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is collaborative so that together through a strength-based approach we can recognize strengths while exploring the roots of thoughts and feelings. I incorporate principles of mindfulness, person-centered approach, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and DBT (Dialectal Behavioral Therapy).
My focus
I typically work with adolescents and emerging adults dealing with ADHD, anxiety, depression, dealing with life adjustments due to divorce. In addition, I have treated adults managing life stressors, transitions, work/family balance, anxiety, depression, and dealing with caregiving responsibilities.
My communication style
I offer a very empathic and active listening styles, which allow me to express in a calm and receptive tone. I strive to create a very validating and safe space for my clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was attracted to the career of a therapist because I believe that mental wellness is crucial in an individual's life. I believe that the individual has the potential to achieve greatness when given the skills and help. As a bicultural and bilingual therapist, it is imperative that I break barriers and stigmas of mental health illnesses.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with clients via principles of motivational interviewing in order to meet the client where they are at.
My first session with you
Clients should expect to feel heard and validated towards their thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental space. While also identifying the areas of need in order to understand coping strategies to achieve overall wellness.
