Hi there! I'm LaShunda Perry, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Chicago, Illinois. I enjoy working with teens, adults, families, and couples of a wide range of ages. I have a wide variety of experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, personality disorders, self-harm/ suicidal ideation, substance/ alcohol use, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, developmental disabilities, and more.
My approach
I have training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), strengths-based approaches, and dual disorders of substance use/ mental health.
My focus
My goal as a therapist is to improve each client's quality of life based on their needs and goals. I see the client as the true "expert" in their life. I see myself as a guide and mentor along the way. I like to use humor and be authentic and genuine in therapy, which Clients have said they appreciate.
My communication style
I love creating a safe, warm, and supportive environment for my clients. I often use compassionate words to validate, encourage, reassure, and educate.
My journey to mental healthcare
I’m a really caring and compassionate person who has always been interested in therapy. Therapy helps clients overcome challenges and improve their lives. It also helps reduce stigma by educating patients about mental health and communicating in a nonjudgmental way. Therapists feel good about their work because they help people feel better about themselves and their lives.
My goals for you
I help clients set goals by asking about their goals, identifying starting points, and helping them define steps to achieve them.
My first session with you
In the first session, I will ask you many questions about yourself, how you cope, and your symptoms (it's basically an interview). You may also chat about goals for therapy, expectations, and more.
