Hi there, I'm Spencer!

I'm Spencer Thueson, a dedicated counselor with 4 years of experience specializing in reduction in depressive symptoms, anxiety management, and trauma recovery. My approach blends empathy with evidence-based practices to support clients in achieving their therapeutic goals effectively.

My approach

I utilize a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for addressing thought patterns and behaviors, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to enhance psychological flexibility, and mindfulness-based practices to cultivate present-moment awareness and resilience.

My focus

I typically work with a diverse range of clients spanning from ages 12 to 75 years old. I am comfortable treating a variety of conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma-related issues, adjustment difficulties, and stress management. My approach is tailored to meet each client's unique needs, fostering a supportive therapeutic environment aimed at promoting growth, resilience, and improved quality of life.

My communication style

In my sessions, I strive to create a warm and empathetic environment where clients feel safe to explore their thoughts, emotions, and challenges. I blend compassion with a collaborative approach, encouraging open dialogue and mutual respect. Clients often describe working with me as supportive, non-judgmental, and empowering, where they can gain insights, develop coping strategies, and progress towards their therapeutic goals with confidence.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was drawn to a career as a therapist by my own transformative therapeutic journey, which profoundly altered the trajectory of my life. Experiencing firsthand the power of therapy to heal and inspire personal growth ignited within me a deep sense of purpose and calling to help others navigate their own challenges and transformations. I am driven by a passion for fostering resilience, empowering individuals to discover their strengths, and supporting them on their journey toward greater emotional well-being and fulfillment.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting with clients by first understanding their individual values, strengths, and aspirations. Together, we identify specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals that align with their desired outcomes. I collaborate closely with clients to break down larger goals into manageable steps, regularly assessing progress and adjusting strategies as needed. By fostering a supportive and empowering environment, I aim to help clients stay motivated and focused on achieving meaningful and sustainable changes in their lives.

My first session with you

During a client's first session with me, they can expect a supportive and confidential space where we begin by discussing their reasons for seeking therapy and what they hope to achieve. I take time to gather relevant background information, explore any concerns or challenges they may be facing, and discuss their goals for therapy. We also establish a collaborative working relationship, where clients are encouraged to ask questions and share any expectations or preferences they have for our sessions. By the end of the first session, clients can expect to have a clearer understanding of how therapy can support them and a plan for moving forward.
