Good Day! I am a Licensed Professional Counseling in the state of Idaho. I maintain a client-centerd approach to counseling, working together with you toward your goals. I offer practical and immediate interventions, as well as, have much experience working toward healing of trauma, anxiety, depression, experience with neuro-divergence, social anxiety, and young to senior clients alike. I look forward to working with you!
My approach
From a trauma-informed lens there are two things I attempt to bring to clients, those are immediate and practical helps (things you can do today to feel better) and hope that even when walking through the most difficult and overwhelming situations, the support and guidance to get through it is available. You are not alone!
My focus
I usually work with adolescent and adult clients who need help making sense of their physical, emotional, and cognitive responses in life. Often clients are feeling overwhelmed or stuck, losing hope that things can be different. I have experience with crime victims, childhood abuse, traumatic experiences, and symptoms of PTSD.
My communication style
I provide a warm and accepting tone in sessions, with a "real life" perspective and sense of humor. I am encouraging by nature, so I look for client strengths but acknowledge the reality of difficulties and things we cannot control. I am an expressive person, so my face, eyes, head, and posture will communicate to you my interest, curiosity, and warmth to you as a person.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have entered the therapy profession later in life (my 50s!) with a profound sense of participating in meaningful work on behalf of others. I have had the honor of being part of the restoration of hope in the lives of others who were suffering, confused, overwhelmed, and deeply grieved, many of them children and young teens. I believe every person is doing the best they can and deserve support when life is overwhelming. To this end, I not only work as a counselor, but I also volunteer to train adults to provide meaningful caring companionship to the weary, weak, and wounded who ask for help through my local church.
My goals for you
Together is the only way goals can be set! I provide a very clear treatment plan, with steps and expected outcomes, so there are no surprises about what and how we will work together. Clients always have time to think about our work together and opportunity to change or say no to any particular topic, approach, or timing.
My first session with you
Our first session will consist of a short getting to know each other time follwed by a short information segment, when I will explain all the elements of our trusting relationship, such as treatment consent, mandatory reporting, privacy, and emergencies. After that we will talk a little about your concerns. If you decide to continue treatment with me, the remainder of the first visit will consist of an interview-style conversation, where you share about some histories (family, mental health, medical) and I get to know you as a person.
