Hello, I’m Bev! My name is Beverly Oh and I am both a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor with a diverse background in counseling, nursing, and education. I earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Services as well as a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on education. My nursing degrees propelled me into various roles encompassing substance use, community health, and academia. I am also a Certified Kolbe Consultant, sharing my dedication to helping individuals discover their ideal career paths.
My approach
With expertise in various therapeutic modalities, my true passion lies in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and hypnosis. These techniques underscore my commitment to innovative and effective approaches to mental health and well-being.
My focus
I specialize in guiding clients through challenging life situations, including separation, divorce, childhood trauma, domestic violence, grief and loss, severe and persistent mental illness, women’s issues, adoption, guardianship, and job loss/career change.
My communication style
I practice active listening and ask open-ended, engaging questions. I also strive to create a comfortable environment for clients to share their most difficult struggles. This welcoming environment encourages collaboration without fear or judgment. I want clients to leave our first session filled with hope and confidence that their problems can be resolved.
My journey to mental healthcare
I initially pursed a counseling degree because I wanted to provide career counseling to women, but along my own journey I discovered a passion for trauma-informed care and identifying “short cuts” to creating change and dispelling the frustration of feeling stuck. I enjoy working with a variety of clients who are compelled to find a better way and live a life of joy. I am very good at meeting people where they are and helping them identify a path to where they want to go.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients emphasizes collaboration to clearly define your objectives during our time together. We start by building trust and establishing a comfortable environment, essential for effective therapy. As we progress, we'll work together to set specific goals and monitor your achievements, ensuring that you make steady progress towards your desired outcomes.
My first session with you
The initial session is about building rapport and getting to know you. Each individual is unique, and I prioritize listening first so I can tailor my approach to your specific needs. In general, therapy is designed to help you gain personal insight, promote healthy behaviors, and improve upon or teach you new methods of coping.
