Hello, my name is Natalie Snyders and I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Des Moines, IA and providing therapy statewide via telehealth. I work with adults 18 + and specialize in treating those with depression, anxiety, stress and life adjustments. I love working with clients in a holistic and “systems” oriented way, by looking at the whole person: body, mind and spirit. Meeting people where they are and encouraging a non-judgmental and safe space is at utmost importance in my practice.
My approach
I work with people under the structure of Person-Centered Therapy and utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and also incorporate other mindfulness approaches. I am trauma-informed and believe adverse life experiences can continue to cause pain until processed fully. I am trained in Eye-Movement-Desensitization and Reprocessing and incorporate those techniques when appropriate.
My focus
I have experience working with adults of all ages and my clients tend to be highly sensitive and empathic people who are having current adjustment issues; have experienced past trauma they are having difficulty moving past. I have worked with those with depression, anxiety, PTSD and substance use issues. I also enjoy assisting those struggling in relationships and skills based approaches to communication.
My communication style
My style is warm, authentic and down to earth. My goal is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for clients to feel open and at ease. I believe a sense of humor can be a valuable healing tool, when appropriate.
My journey to mental healthcare
My career goals have always stemmed from being in service to others and fulfilling a need to make the world around me better. Being a therapist and providing a healing space for others is great joy and an honor. I am truly grateful to serve others in this capacity.
My goals for you
You are the primary expert on you own life and what you want to gain from therapy. I believe in collaborating with you on what goal-setting looks like and what you are looking to get out of our relationship. I may suggest some goals that could be appropriate if you are new to therapy or learning the process, but will always defer to you and your own autonomy.
My first session with you
During our first session, my primary goal is to listen to your story and how you have been feeling recently. I am looking to get to know you and start building a relationship with you. I will listen a lot,but will also ask questions to understand what may causing you pain or current symptoms. I will want to know some of your background, but also want to start building that safe connection and help you feel at ease.
