Patti Hart, LISW, and I have been working in the mental health and medical field for 30 years. I consider myself to be a strength based, existential, therapist searching for the root causes, which often leans into a more integrative approach addressing mind, body, spirit. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important component of effective therapy and I place value on collaboration during the process.
My approach
It is often through suffering or adverse events we can feel a pull towards healing and finding a purpose. For real change to happen we must learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. I like to support resilience while using a variety of modalities such as mindfulness cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, interpersonal and storytelling.
My focus
I am most comfortable with adults ages 21 and older. I focus on depression, anxiety, grief, loneliness, as it relates to people experiencing life alternating changes or transitions. I also have interest in working with those who struggle with self esteem, aging, chronic illness/pain, trauma, interpersonal relationships issues and disordered eating.
My communication style
You may find me asking you what you want to work on in therapy. I believe in meeting the client where they are and going from there. I have a straight forward approach and enjoy hearing people's stories. I have been told I am great at challenging people to get out of their comfort zone in a safe way.
My goals for you
Goal setting is collaborative, fluid, and realistic. I most enjoy when clients feel they gain useful insights about their self. Other times we focus on symptoms reduction to address immediate more acute discomfort.
My first session with you
They should expect to feel comfortable sharing their story in a nonjudgmental, safe, supportive space.
